Real Southern Football in Sewanee, Tennessee

Welcome to Sewanee's Stadium.

Tiger Land has no stadium dogs and no dome foam, school colors are limited, but school pride is strong.  Kids frolick at the fence for Katie Kodak to snap photos to place on display at the SPO.

Students seldom know the final score of the game because they tend to retreat across the street to the Theta Kappa Phi House to enjoy adult libations while chanting softly, "Down with the heathens, up with the church, Yea Sewanee's Right!"

This is Southern football at its finest.

In a game marked as a thriller, the final score: Sewanee Tigers 16, Rhodes Lynx 20.  See article here

Cheese Tasting

Lauren Wakeman and I went to a cheese tasting at St. James Cheese Company about two months ago.  Great activity and all you can eat cheese and wine for 20 bucks.  What a steal.  The local cheesemongers had just returned from the American Cheese Society Conference in Seattle, Washington.  Thousand upon thousands of cheeses were sampled in a very short time.  St. James brought back the winners (and some of the losers) to recreate their own American Cheese Society tasting.  Among the cheeses: Bonne Buche, Saint Genevieve, Pleasant Ridge Reserve, Marieke Gouda, Tarentaise (Thistle Hill), Tarentaise (Spring Booth), Cabot Clothbound Cheddar, Avolea Clothbound Cheddar, Buttermilk Blue and Echo Mountain.  Flavors of salted caramel and grass were tasted throughout the sampling.  Best in Show went to Pleasant Ridge Reserve from Upland Cheese Company in Wisconsin and Bonne Buche from Vermont Butter and Cheese.  St. James offers tastings on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  You can check out their schedule here

To add to this wonderful cheesy experiment, Lauren and I had the privilege of sitting at the table with a couple from Michigan who were on their honeymoon.  Who would have thought two honeymooners at a cheese tasting in New Orleans?  Just love it.

So, next year the American Cheese Society Conference is in Montreal.  It is open to the public.  Who wants to go with me?!

This is the cheese wheel they give you to help you determine the smells and tastes you are experiencing.

Hairspray at Newman

My Newman friends, Lauren, Lawton and Elizabeth, invited me to their school tonight to see Hairspray, the musical.  If you are free tomorrow or Saturday at 7PM, I highly recommend seeing it.  The students did a fabulous job, and some of the voices will knock your socks off (and I have seen the play on Broadway!).

I bet you can only imagine how it gave me a bug to want to be in a play....hmmm....how to accomplish?!  Do any of my friends want to come over and play drama class with me?

Many of you may not know this fact, but I was the understudy for Wendy (Rachel Foley) in the play Peter Pan at Sacred Heart in eighth grade.  For some reason, Rachel couldn't perform at the last minute, and I was able to assume the role as Wendy.  It was one of my proudest moments, and I still remember the light blue nightgown that I wore.  The itch is on to perform again!  Here is a link to my favorite song in the movie.  I bet you can just see me now!!
